Most executive teams are not short on talent, strategy or ambition. They stall for more specific reasons, and the pattern is well documented.<\/p>

Lencioni’s model of team dysfunction names the sequence: without trust, people won’t risk real conflict. Without conflict, there’s no genuine commitment to decisions. Without commitment, no one holds each other accountable. And without accountability, the team quietly stops producing results together, even if individuals are still working hard.<\/p>

Trust is where it starts, and it’s more specific than \u201cwe get along.\u201d The trust that lets a team perform is the kind where people can challenge the status quo, admit they don’t know, push back on the CEO, or flag their own mistake, without paying a social or political cost for it. This is what psychological safety describes: not comfort, but the shared belief that the team is safe for interpersonal risk.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The teams we work with rarely name it as \u201clow trust\u201d or \u201cpoor psychological safety.\u201d They name what they
can see:<\/p>

  • Meetings that feel productive but change nothing \u2014 the real conversation happens afterward, in the corridor or in side chats<\/li>
  • Disagreement that never quite surfaces, so decisions get made, then quietly undermined or reworked later<\/li>
